DECA Project Prep Framework

WRITTEN PROJECT

  • DECA All Projects Timeline Overview
  • DECA Project Phases Overview
  • Complete written document
  • Have the document evaluated by at least 2 evaluators
  • Submit by DECA competition deadline

    VISUAL AID

    • Follow guidelines for the specific DECA event (varies)
    • Secure presentation aids such as easel, project boards, tech equipment, etc.

     

     

     

     

     

      PRESENTATION

      • Immediately start presenting
      • Introduction
      • The Hook
      • Presentation
      • Allow enough time for the judge to ask a couple of questions if they haven’t asked any during the presentation.
        • NOTE: If the judge interrupts you during your presentation, don’t be thrown off. 
          • Remember where you are in your presentation.
          • Recognize - state “That’s a good question.”
          • Respond - provide a brief answer
          • Resume presentation
      • Make sure each partner has a part to cover
      • Use 21st Century Skills

       

       

      CLASS SETUP FOR PRACTICE

      • Set up one competitor per table or 2/3 desks facing one another.(space for privacy)
      • Partner judges and students by event type (50/50 split)
      • Assign judge and competitor numbers
      • Allow the judge and competitor the allotted prep time
        • Use this time to review the judge role with judges
        • Judges review the role play and scoresheet
        • Competitors prep for presentation
      • Have competitors exit the room 
        • Give the competitors the “rules for engagement” with the judge

       

        • Allow the competitors into the room and go to the judge that matches their number
        • Start timer when all competitors are in place.
        • Allow judges 5 minutes to complete evaluation form
        • Then judges and competitors switch places
        • Allow 30 minutes for individual events and 50 for team decision making
        • 2 individual event rotations can be done while 1 team decision making event rotation is done.

        Greeting

        • Introducing yourself to the judge
        • Handshake
        • Ask to sit or stand based on type of presentation

        Closing

        • Ask the judge for their buy-in to your project
        • Thank judge
        • Handshake
